      If you make a payment via IRS Direct Pay, EFTPS, or debit\/credit card, you can select \u201cExtension\u201d as the reason.       If you’re a U.S. expat and don\u2019t owe taxes, you\u2019re in luck! The IRS automatically grants a two-month extension to file your tax return. This extension applies to those living and working abroad, or are in the military on duty outside the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The extension gives you until June 16, 2025 to file (since June 15 falls on a Sunday).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

      If you’re a U.S. expat and need more time to file beyond the automatic two-month extension, you can request an additional extension until October 15, 2025.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

      The way to do this is by filing Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. You don’t need to provide a specific reason for requesting the extension. It’s an automatic extension upon filing the form correctly and on time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
