Canadians received their last Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) payment starting April 22, 2025. Following this payment, the CCR program has now been discontinued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This decision followed the official abolishment of the federal carbon pricing system (also known as the carbon tax) on April 1, 2025. The government had announced the change on March 15. The federal carbon tax, which included the fuel charge, was initially introduced to combat climate change by placing a price on fossil fuels and returning the proceeds to Canadians through quarterly rebates like the CCR. There were usually four CCR payments each year. The first one in 2025 was sent on January 15. The second and final payment was issued starting April 22.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Eligible individuals automatically received this payment. To qualify, you needed to have filed your 2023 tax return and lived in a province where the federal carbon tax applied, such as Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan.
